Family & Senior Services – Meals on Wheels

Imagine …NO Hunger

Receiving a Meal

Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals directly to the homes of older adults and those who are unable to shop for or prepare meals for themselves. Friendly volunteers deliver meals Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and can provide frozen meals for weekends.

Get a Meal

You can receive Meals on Wheels by calling 503-364-2856. We will sign you up to receive your first meal the  very next day.

Payment options include debit and credit cards, personal checks and SNAP.

Financial assistance programs like Oregon Project Independence (OPI) and Medicaid may cover the cost of home delivered meals. Contact NorthWest Disability Services at 1-800-469-8772 to see if you are eligible for these programs.

We offer a limited amount of financial aid, please ask the Meals on Wheels staff if this is something you qualify for.

The Food

Nutritious meals are created by our very own team of chefs and culinary specialists. Every meal is reviewed by a registered dietician and is in line with the American Diabetic & Heart Associations’ moderate guidelines. Meals are low in fat, cholesterol, sodium and sugar and represent about 1/3 to ½ of the average older adult’s daily caloric and nutritional needs.

All of our meals include a hot main dish, vegetables, salad, roll and a dessert. We can provide some menu options to accommodate special diets and dietary preferences, including those with food allergies and diabetes. Some favorite meals include lasagna Florentine, turkey enchiladas, schezuan beef and barbecue chicken.

Get Involved

Volunteers are the heart of Meals on Wheels. More than just delivering meals to homebound seniors, volunteers provide the senior with companionship and a warm friendly smile. Sign up today to:

  • Deliver meals to the homes of seniors.
  • Prepare the nutritious food that is delivered.
  • Serve as a hostess or cashier in the dining room at Center 50+.
  • Assist with volunteers and clients in the office.
  • Help plan special events.

For more information on how you can become part of Meals on Wheels, please call 503-364-2856. All volunteers are subject to a background check.

Because No One Should Be Hungry

Marion-Polk Food Share is the regional food bank leading the fight to end hunger in Marion and Polk counties. The food share took on the Meals on Wheels program in 2015 to serve the nutritional needs of older adults in Salem and Keizer. Support from our local community makes it possible for the Food Share to collect and distribute nutritious food to more than 100 partner agency programs, including food pantries, meal sites, foster homes, low-income day care centers, shelters and senior housing sites. The Food Share also supports programs to address the root causes of hunger. Local residents have honored the Food Share as the Best Nonprofit and Best Place to Volunteer in the Mid-Valley.
